How to speed up GameEx startup?

Is there a way to speed up the startup time for GameEx?  

I have disabled just about everything except a few simple emulators--including disabling MAME--but based on what I see in the log file, GameEx still seems to attempt to setup everything regardless.  

In other words, it appears that disabling items in the config only removes access to them from GameEx---it does not appear to skip those items in the startup sequence.  Or am I just out to lunch?
